Door/Window Sensor is not Properly Triggering
Table of Contents
If your Door or Window Sensor isn’t responding, follow the steps below to get things working again
Step 1: Check Magnet Alignment
Make sure the two pieces of your sensor are installed less than ½ inch apart. If they’re too far apart, the sensor won’t register properly.
Step 2: Test the Sensor in Your Hands
- Gently remove both sensor pieces from the door or window.
- Hold one piece in each hand.
- Bring them together and pull them apart. This mimics the door or window opening and closing.
If your panel shows the sensor as “opened,” your sensor is working correctly! The issue is likely with how it was mounted.
Step 3: Watch for Metal Interference
If your door or window is metal, it can interfere with the sensor’s magnetic signal.
Fix it:
Swap the two pieces—place the magnet piece (the smaller one) on the non-metal surface. Then remount them with the correct spacing and test again.
Step 4: Try Replacing the Battery
Still not responding? Try a fresh battery:
- Battery type: Two CR-2032 batteries
- Remove the old batteries
- Wait 30–40 seconds
- Insert the new ones
- Test the sensor again by imitating the open/close motion
