What Does “Loss of Supervision” Mean?
If you are seeing a Loss of supervision alert, it means one or more of your sensors are not communicating properly with your Hub. Don’t worry, this is usually a quick fix, and your system is doing its job by letting you know!
What Causes It—And How You Can Fix It
Here are the most common reasons for this issue and how to resolve each one:
Sensor Is Too Far From the Hub
Your sensors work best when they’re within 100 feet of your Hub. If a sensor is too far away or if there are multiple walls or floors in between, it may lose connection.
What to do:
- Try relocating the sensor closer to the Hub
- Reduce the number of obstructions (like walls or floors) if possible
Low or Dead Battery
A weak or dead battery can prevent the sensor from sending a strong enough signal.
What to do:
- Check your Cove Connect app or alarm panel, you will get a low battery alert
- Replace the battery with the correct type
- For secondary sirens: Make sure the power outlet is working and replace the backup battery if needed
Signal Interference from Building Materials
Materials like metal siding, ductwork, or even mirrors can block or deflect signals.
What to do:
- Avoid placing sensors directly on metallic surfaces or near large ducts
- Try relocating the sensor slightly to improve signal strength
Interference from Other Devices
Nearby radio-transmitting devices (like baby monitors, HAM radios, or even microwaves) might interfere with the sensor’s wireless signal.
What to do:
- Move the sensor away from these devices
- Or, move the device to another part of your home
Extreme Temperatures or Humidity
Sensors are designed to work best in climate-controlled environments. Garages, bathrooms, or areas near exterior doors/windows can cause issues, especially in extreme heat or cold.
What to do:
- Keep sensors indoors, between 32°F–110°F
- Avoid humid or unregulated areas
- If needed, move the sensor to a more stable environment
Physical Damage or Loose Mounting
If a sensor has fallen off a surface or been bumped, it might not function correctly.
What to do:
- Make sure the sensor is securely mounted
- Reinstall using proper mounting instructions
- If it’s visibly damaged, consider replacing the sensor
